Creativesheffield Launch Independent’s Day
‘Independent’s Day’, will fall on the first Saturday of December every year and will become an annual celebration of independent retail in Sheffield. The city’s independent and idiosyncratic nature differentiates the city from its competitors and Creativesheffield believe that this distinctive characteristic should be nurtured throughout the city’s rejuvenation to maintain and develop the city centre as a haven where independent retailers can continue to thrive.

Venturefest Yorkshire’s Investment Competition
Connect Yorkshire is looking for knowledge and technology business stars for the 2009 Investment Competition - to be held Wednesday 11h February at York Racecourse as part of Venturefest Yorkshire.

Companies and individuals across Yorkshire and Humber are being invited to enter the ‘Innovator 09’ awards which celebrate companies and individuals in Yorkshire and Humber who have embraced innovation and developed, alone or in partnership, new ideas, products, technologies or ways of working in order to improve their business.
University departments and facilities that are involved with industrial collaborations are also invited to enter as they too work to overcome the challenges of today’s increasingly competitive marketplace.

DESIGN CITIES
The Design Museum has partnered with Flickr to invite you to share your photography on the theme of Design Cities.
A panel of 3 judges (to be announced) will select 20 photos to be printed and exhibited in the Design Museum in January 2009. One photograph will be selected to be printed on 80,000 Don't Panic posters and distributed across the U.K and some major international cities.
To submit your photograph, add it to the Design Cities group on Flickr before 1st December 2008, be sure you read the Group Rules before joining.

Sheffield-based firm develops hydrogen-refuelling station for vehicles
Sheffield-based firm ITM Power has unveiled a home refuelling system and hydrogen-powered car. It is believed that the car could revolutionise green energy and transport. The centre is supposed to be a hub of entrepreneurial activity for technology firms in the UK. Read more.
